Hi all,
We now have an iPhone client available! We’re very excited by it and have been using it a lot during the beta testing. It’s helped me several times when I needed a document I knew I had on my virtual drive with Allmydata.
The iPhone client allows you to login and browse, view, and play any files that are on your virtual drive. This means that you can stream music, view PDF’s, and read documents on your iPhone. With good network connectivity, you can even stream movies! You can also upload photos (only one at a time), but we’re working on getting bulk upload of photos and contacts in the next release.
Just login with your existing account or sign up with the iPhone.
Have fun,
Peter

Hi all,
Several people reported expired accounts recently and it turns out there was a small logic bug in the display that was erroneously reporting many accounts as expired even though they were completely up to date.
This should be fixed now - please let us know if you see any other issues.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi all,
Well, that was fast. It turns out that it was a proxy error on our side and most likely it was not even visible to users outside of our test network. Sorry for the (potentially) false alarm.
That being said, do watch out for the Flash 10 upgrade as it does have a bug which causes our upload to break. We await a fix on that but may have to find some workaround (other than disabling Flash) in the near future as the fix is now about two weeks later than expected.
Thanks,
Peter

Hi all,
For some reason uploads via the web drive are no longer working. There is a known bug in Flash 10 that breaks file uploading, but this is a new problem that has surfaced within the last two hours. Uploads were working before that time. We do not yet know what the problem is but are working on it. Sorry for the inconvenience and we’ll let you know as soon as possible what the problem is.

Hi all,
We’ve just implemented a very interesting feature on the web drive for your enjoyment. In addition to being able to play music and videos and preview images (use the “Thumbnail view), you can now preview any office document (.doc, .xls, .ppt, .pdf, etc.) online. Just right click on the file and choose the “Preview” option. It should bring up a new window and then you can view the file. We are also working on the ability to edit the files as well!
We’ve also added a fix so that moving a file with a “+” in the title doesn’t change it to a space ” “.
Last, in the near future, look for a small business dashboard where you can manage multiple accounts with a master account which can manage quotas, reset passwords, enable/disable access, etc.
Talk soon,
Peter

We are happy to announce the first phase of our partnership with ClickOVA to provide mobile backup services!
If you already have an Allmydata account (register or login here), you can now install the ClickOVA backup agent on your mobile phone and have it automatically back your contacts, pictures, and other information to the Allmydata service. This is great if you lose your phone or want to browse your files remotely, or want to share them later.
Have fun!

Hi all,
Just a couple small but nice updates to the webdrive.
- Back and forward navigation buttons to help when browsing directories
- Icons for .xlsx, .pptx, and other new Office formats
- Smoother upload progress so that it’s easy to view the speed and overall progress
Hope these are useful!

Hi all,
We are excited to announce our new pricing model effective immediately for all new accounts. The price per month will be $9.99/month (billed yearly) with a 30-day free trial period. You can cancel at any time during the first 30 days with no charge, and any time after that you will be refunded for the time not used. Our service has started to be quite successful and there is so much data being stored that the average usage is higher than our model accounted for. In order for us to not lose money on each customer, we need to get our margins up to cover costs and future development needs.
What about old accounts? All paid accounts are good for another year at their old rates, and free accounts have 3 months to upgrade to a paid account. If you have any transition questions, just let us know!
Thanks,
Peter

Hi all,
Just a quick update on some recent activities. We added a couple features to the website, including a fallback method to upload files if Flash9 is not installed or working in your browser, some better metrics on upload speed, and a bit of cleanup of the interface when uploading lots of files.
We’re also steadily approaching a 64bit Vista build and should have a test version of that ready in the next couple weeks.
Last, I’d like to offer up access to our alpha FTP service (new, not fully tested, may be taken up/down without warning, but it’s fast!). Remember - like all standard FTP services, all data is passed in the clear. We will be addressing this by implementing secure FTP, but that is still in the works. You can use your standard login/pass at prodftp.allmydata.com . Note that there is a problem with the “@” character when trying to mount an FTP site in Mac Finder, so you can get around this by logging into the website and changing your email address to a username. Note this will prevent us from sending you emails, but you can try out the Mac FTP drive. Windows seems to work reasonably well, and command line access is very quick. Let us know your thoughts!
